Grieving mother adds reward for son's killer
                      By SUSAN SILVERS ssilvers@ctpost.com

                      Friday, August 16, 2002 - Bridgeport

Since her only child was viciously slain in a barrage of bullets here last year, Eva Kiss has
had  one mission in life: To see that the killer is arrested.

Now, after a year of scraping together money by working 17-hour days, the Toronto
resident has amassed $10,000 to add to the $50,000 reward already offered by the state
for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the assailant.

"I beg and I plead that somebody comes forward," she said by phone, her voice breaking.
                          "Iknow that somebody knows."

She said she hopes the additional $10,000 will be a critical incentive in cracking the case.

Only 24, Zoltan "Zeus" Kiss was gunned down on Pembroke Street last Sept. 28, shot
                          more than  15 times about 3 a.m.

A painter and chimney sweep who lived with his family in Bridgeport from 1985-89, he
had no criminal record and no drugs were found in his possession, police said.

Since her son's death, Eva Kiss' life has been one of despair.  "It would be so easy to
jump in front of a train."  But, she added, "I have to see this through."

State's Attorney Jonathan Benedict said it is highly unusual for a bereaved relative to
personally post reward money.  "I've had it happen in one other case," he said.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the Kiss murder.  "It's not in the cold
file by any means," Benedict said.

Detective Heitor Texeira said police are still following up leads in the case.  But they have
yet to hear from anyone with information about the shooting, he added.

Meanwhile, Kiss tries to remember her son's vibrancy.  She has set up a Web site,
www.geocities.com/murderinconnecticut/, where she displays photographs of her son as a
newborn, a curious toddler and maturing young man.
